Senior Portraits for Will part 3

Senior portraits should show you many different personality traits that describe their individuality. Its important to change wardrobe and location so it doesn't feel shoe-horned into a tiny location. I like to finish a set with formal portraits so they don't feel too stiff or forced. After shooting all the fun poses running around the park and river trails the formal poses fall together much more naturally.

Senior Portraits for Will part 2

Continuing Will's session, we used the surrounding areas in the park to change the look of his session. From the basketball court to the river's edge, each location brought with it a new perspective for his senior pictures. I don't like to limit anyone to a set number of poses but instead I encourage them to bring as many wardrobe changes and props as they can think of. My sessions run up to two hours and shooting 300 or more images is commonplace.

Senior Portraits for Will part 1

Fall has arrived and with it comes cold mornings and beautiful colors in the trees. I love shooting outdoors during this time where I can use nature as my backdrop. Local parks offer dozens of options for angles and every direction offers a new look for the photos. This is Will's senior year in high school and we were able to shoot a few hundred shots one Sunday morning in October. These are some of my favorites from his session.

Garrett's Senior Portraits

Senior portraits are a lot of fun to shoot. I am invited to help capture a milestone in someone's life and preserve that moment for all time. I love having friends ask me to be involved in these events :)

Homecoming at the Park

Getting pictures to document the homecoming dance don't have to cost a fortune or be cookie-cutter style with generic backdrops at the school. I met these kids at the park where we got a variety of poses from formal to goofy all in the space of half an hour.

Senior Portraits in the Studio with Michaela

Michaela's senior portraits started outdoors making use of the beautiful fall colors in a local park. Once those photos were completed we returned to my studio where we continued her session.

Michaela needed her senior photos taken on short notice and I was happy to oblige. She brought several outfits including her cheer uniform. We met at a local park and made our way around the grounds making use of the evening glow and golden colors of the autumn leaves.

Katelyn's Graduation Session at Shiprock

It was very important to this session that we utilize the natural beauty of the landscape and showcase traditional regalia and jewelry. Shiprock is a natural rock formation on the Navajo Nation in the Four Corners region of the United States. It holds a sacred history to the Navajo people.

Amber's Outdoor Senior Photo Session

Holding a photo session in the park is a wonderful option for your photo session. I do something that most photographers would never dream of, I bring my lights with me on location! I move the lights away from the camera so you are not blinded by the flash every time I take a photo. Then I turn you away from the sun or bring you into the shade and set my lights around you to get beautiful lighting without super bright backgrounds or accidental-silhouettes.

Amber was a junior this year and is getting her senior portraits done before her final year in high school. She brought a change of clothes and her flute to get a variety of images for her senior year and wanted her photos to be shot outdoors. We set up in a park near my studio, on the lawn, next to trees, and by this little creek that cuts through the park. I used two small lights on stands that I moved around Amber, depending on her position with the sun. I did this so we wouldn't have really dark shadows on her face while trying to keep the sun behind her.

I love the results of this photo session because it could literally be anywhere in America. You would never guess how close to a street we were or that there was a large playground 100 feet away from us. It could be on a farm, in the mountains, near the plains, or even a park in a big city. I kept the angles very protected to keep some anonymity to the location. I know where it is and how we got the shot, but I want you to see a beautiful portrait.

Keanno's Senior Portraits

I photographed Keanno in my studio as well as on location in the areas around my studio.
We started by taking some head shots in my studio with controlled lighting and three different backdrops. He didn't want to take any photos with his cap & gown, he wanted to be in his regular clothes and act like himself. We took a series of photos, both serious and goofy, inside my studio and then moved outside for more.
